The philosophy of listening - Gemma Fiumara

It used to be where Legein meant 'to lay', laying down and laying before which gathers itself and others. Comes together in 'presence'. gathering for the sake of building our philosophical priority rather than knowledge?? allows us to think/reflect/imbibe/grow if we let lay and gather. what needs to be discovered is not so much what is unknown, but better way/better fits of relating to the known.

we use logic to give ourselves reasons not to listen but logic is slippery and movable - and therefore we may never listen until we let go of logic? - Wittgenstein

When one half is left completely out as reality is constructed. Constant denial to the whole ends up with left over or unattended to parts which lead to minimal eco-logical thinking. Listening is the only thing that gives language its wholeness, it is a need and not a want. Collective illusion that we can speak without listening. Listening has no remunerative value in our culture.

not logic centric - When just moment exists and is not tied to any logic or rationale but the conversation that is happening with the group or two people.

Why ask Why - instead of experiencing what is happening.

Reduce knowledge to a set of principles - I see so much of what we do in our work as facilitators - why am i accepting it so easily? cause it is not working as well we ideally say it should. We hear only to things we already know, to directions we are already inclined to. We believe we deserve more listening than before

attention being the key to listening then - its philosophical bent making it a harder skill to imbibe. demand here for a relationship with the thinking anchored to be humble and faithful. coexistence with rather than Knowledge of something

Heidegger - paying attention to simple things not so much a matter for research.

Question: territorial invasion based on us? becomes useless when we are not ready to listen to the answer.

Gadamer - probe the logical structure of the question. preserve an orientation towards openness. A person who is able to prevent suppression by the dominant opinion through questions

Emerging Questions:

1. IS there a language of the sayer and should the listener start there or should it be decided collectively?

2. Wonder is eastern philosophy interprets listening as 'being'?

3. Why is it difficult to put a question and make nothing of it or morph it into what we know.

Heidegger - how are we to hear without translating, and translate without interpreting?. Fiumara - And how are we to theorise what we translated and interpreted when we do not consider listening, worthy?
